Privately Funded Scholarships at Missouri State University-West Plains

Scholarship Aid Year: 1920

These scholarships have been established thanks to the generosity of Missouri State University-West Plains alumni and friends and are made available to students through annual gifts to the Missouri State University Foundation. By applying online, your application will be matched with the selection criteria for endowed, privately funded and some institutional scholarships. Because some of these scholarships may require letters of reference and/or essays, review the criteria for each scholarship and submit any additional paperwork to the financial aid office. Scholarship criteria that include financial need require that the applicant file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 31.

Donald Flinner Scholarship

Criteria:
Awarded to a student enrolled at Missouri State University-West Plains whose area of emphasis or interest relates to agriculture, forestry or natural resource conservation, with preference given to a student pursuing an Associate of Applied Science Degree in General Agriculture. The applicant must be a resident of the seven-county service area (Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Shannon, Texas or Wright County) with first preference given to a Howell County resident. The applicant may be a full-time or part-time student with preference given to a full-time student enrolled in 12 or more credit hours per semester.
Renewal:
Recipient must reapply to be considered for renewal of the scholarship.

Doug Darr Community Leadership Restricted Current Scholarship

Criteria:
Applicant should be from the seven-county service area (Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Shannon, Texas or Wright County). Preference will be given to a student majoring in one of the following disciplines: political science, education (elementary or secondary), business or communications. Applicant should demonstrate community involvement and cite successful leadership experiences.

Eual 'Bud' James Academic Restricted Current Scholarship

Criteria:
Applicant must be a resident of the seven-county service area (Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Texas, Shannon or Wright County) with preference being given to a graduate of an Oregon County high school. Applicant should have maintained an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher in all previous educational programs. Academics will be the primary consideration for this scholarship. Full-time student preferred.

Application:
Complete the online scholarship application and submit to the financial aid office two letters of reference that speak to the student’s involvement in community activities.

Harlin Family Business Scholarship

Criteria:
Awarded to a student majoring in the field of business who is a graduate of an Ozark County high school. If awarded to an incoming freshman, recipient must be in the upper third of his or her high school graduating class. If awarded to a sophomore, junior or senior, the student must have maintained an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher in his or her field of study.

Recipient must reapply to be considered.

James and Audrey Friend Restricted Scholarship

Criteria:
Recipient must be a graduate of Licking High School. Consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests and leadership qualities. Recipient must be enrolled in at least three hours each semester. Award will be made with regard for financial need.

Recipient must reapply to be considered.

John Craig Memorial Scholarship

Criteria:
Awarded to a student who is enrolled in a program at Missouri State University-West Plains. Priority will first be given to applicants whose area of emphasis is special education, with secondary consideration to applicants with an interest in math. The applicant must have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher. The applicant may be a full-time or part-time student who is enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours per semester. Students receiving the Missouri A+ Grant are not eligible, and preference will be given to an individual who requires some financial assistance but may not qualify for a federal or state grant.
Renewal:
Recipient must reapply to be considered and continue to meet all eligibility requirements.

Lela and Lowell Fleenor Restricted Current Scholarship

Criteria:
Awarded to a student enrolled at Missouri State University-West Plains with preference given to a student majoring in music; second preference will be for a student majoring in elementary or secondary education. First preference will be given to a former graduate of the West Plains High School; second consideration to be given to a Houston High School graduate. Applicant should have maintained an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher in all previous educational programs. Preference will be given to a student who is enrolled full time. Awards will be made with regard for financial need.

Lelia Heuer Restricted Current Scholarship

Criteria:
The intent of this scholarship is to “significantly impact the life of the scholarship recipient” and to assist students who may not qualify for federal or state grant assistance. Primary consideration will be given to non-traditional applicants; however, a traditional student may receive the award if he or she has demonstrated a commitment to learning/education that exceeds that of the non-traditional applicants. Recipient must be a resident of Wright, Shannon, Howell, Oregon, Douglas, Texas or Ozark County. First consideration will be given to a resident of Howell County. Applicant must have graduated from a public high school or obtained a GED. Recipients may be enrolled full time or part time.

Lelia Heuer Restricted Current Scholarship for Howell County

Criteria:
The intent of this scholarship is to "significantly impact the life of the scholarship recipient" and to assist students who may not qualify for federal or state grant assistance. Primary consideration will be given to traditional applicants who are graduates of a Howell County public high school. Recipient may be enrolled as a full-time or part-time student.

Lelia Heuer Restricted Current Scholarship for Respiratory Therapy

Criteria:
The intent of this scholarship is to “significantly impact the life of the scholarship recipient” and to assist students who may not qualify for federal or state grant assistance. Applicant must be enrolled in the respiratory care program. Primary consideration will be given to traditional applicants who are graduates of a Laclede County public high school. Second consideration will be given to traditional applicants who are graduates of public high schools in the seven-county service area (Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Shannon, Texas or Wright County). Recipients may be enrolled full time or part time.

Math Educators of South Central Missouri Restricted Scholarship

Criteria:
Selection of recipient will be based on the following: GPA, application and letter(s) of reference. First preference will be given to a mathematics major, second preference to a mathematics minor and third preference to an education major. Students must have completed at least 45 college credit hours (at least 30 at Missouri State University-West Plains), have an overall GPA of at least 3.0, and be a graduate of a south-central Missouri high school. Recipient must be enrolled in at least six hours during the upcoming fall and spring semesters. Awards will be made without regard to financial need.
Renewal:
Recipient must reapply to be considered. Scholarship cannot be received more than two years.

Maxine Brown Restricted Scholarship

Criteria:
Awarded to a student properly enrolled at Missouri State University-West Plains. Applicant should be a graduate of a Texas County high school. If there are no qualified applicants, then the recipient should be from an adjoining county. Recipient must be a single parent pursuing higher education. When awarded to an incoming freshman, consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential as indicated by aptitude tests and leadership qualities; and the student should have graduated from high school with at least a 2.5 GPA or equivalent. Award will be made with regard for financial need.

Missouri State University-West Plains Alumni & Friends Scholarship

Criteria:
Awarded to a student who is enrolled in a program at Missouri State University-West Plains. Recipient must be from the seven-county service area (Douglas, Howell, Oregon, Ozark, Shannon, Texas or Wright County). The applicant may be a full-time or part-time student who is enrolled in a minimum of six credit hours per semester. Students receiving the Missouri A+ Grant are not eligible, and preference will be given to an individual who requires some financial assistance but may not qualify for a federal or state grant.

Ozarks Teacher Corps Scholarship

Criteria:
The recipient of this scholarship shall be a student properly enrolled at Missouri State University-West Plains who is pursuing a degree in teacher education. Preference will be given to students who are enrolled in the Associate of Arts in Teaching degree program. The recipient must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester. A recipient will hold the scholarship for one academic year.

In accepting this scholarship, a recipient agrees to participate in all activities related to the Ozarks Teacher Corps Program (typically one activity per semester). Scholarship recipients also agree to teach in a rural school district for three years following graduation. Missouri State University-West Plains will identify graduates who are teaching in the south central Missouri area to serve as mentors for scholarship recipients and provide an opportunity for networking between mentors and mentees at least one time per semester. Scholarship recipients will also be given an opportunity to visit classrooms of former Ozarks Teacher Corps Program members who are currently teaching.
Renewal:
The scholarship may then be automatically renewed each year for up to three additional years based on satisfactory academic progress and subject to the availability of funds.

Urban Missouri Scholarship

Criteria:
Awarded to a graduate of a St. Louis or Kansas City High School. Recipient must be at least a second semester freshman with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher and enrolled in at least 12 credit hours per semester. Consideration will be given to financial need.
Renewal:
The scholarship is not renewable.
Application:
Complete the online scholarship application and submit to the financial aid office a typed autobiographical essay of 500 to 750 words that details the applicant's financial need and reasons for seeking a university degree.
